"A Quiet Little Marriage" was a tough one to review for me, mainly because while I found it technically sound, realistically truthful, inoffensive to my senses and genuinely competent all around, it's seems to be necessarily not my cup of tea ...The way marriages are arranged in India, seems just too mechanical to me. It has more to do with “practical” arrangement as opposed to emotions.
I feel that marriage is important but the more we talk about it the more I'm starting to see side of things. Weddings are expensive and neither of us have much money. Few people feels that a committed relationship doesn't need to be legally binding, and I sort of see point , too. But I also feel that a ceremony in front of your community is important, stating that you want only this person and announcing publicly that you are a committed couple, making vows of how to treat each other and solve problems.
Love marriage: Love Life and Relationships are among all of the most vital aspects of our lives, like Food, Clothes and Home for shelter. Generally they feel their love can surmount anything and everything…they have great hopes from each other and they expect unquestioning love and support from their partners. If the relationship moves towards marriage, the doors of reality flies open and there might be not so pleasant surprises...You can Demand, Command or to make know the feelings or opinions of oneself w/o hesitancy. Love is a prerequisite to marriage.
Arranged marriage: On the other hand, is such a planned thought out move, where families are dissected for financial standing, law ailments and once both parties are sure there is no psychopath on either side, they move on to the next step.In an arranged marriage, two people even if they have chemistry with each other and are half in love, do not really know each other that well and therefore their expectation levels are lower. If things go wrong in their relationship, it could be because they have been lied to by the other party.
My Impression was, there should be a purpose to get married to a particular person.Like you like being with that person, share common passions and ideology and your sense of humor compatible with another. Then go ahead and bind themselves in a marriage.Otherwise no offense, but in fact arranged marriage is a compromise from day one.Because you choose to get married to some random one, because you yourself never found one with whom your wavelength gets compatible. I have read in many news papers and magazines where it was implied too while explaining growing divorce rate. Its also been found that, most of the divorces are initiated by women. It sounded more of a family mergers rather than heart mergers. Its like, husband forced me to eat while I was not hungry. However I do suggest, its time men and women both put in effort to save their relationship and grow mutual respect and be tolerant about each others mistakes.
I always believed that to make marriage and love synonymous, to make them sourish and nourish with the mutually common motives, and to make them comply with and comprise of similar human emotions, marriage has to be based on love.Where two individuals share common ideas about the life and things that matter for the future life of their own.
All the Best...

:-) Nice thoughts. I do agree. Only when you know a person in and out can you make a decision of whether to live the rest of your life with him/her or not. And to know a person at that detail, you gotta live with him/her for atleast a few years (no most of those who say they fell in love at first site, in 1 month, 6 months blah blah blah, are rubbish and it is infact infactuation, as they discover later in life).
The best thing is to stay single (or maybe in a live-in) and having plenty of like-minded, warm and affectionate friends. Thats bliss.
Enjoy your single status as long as you want to.

hmmmm...something to think about. How many arranged marriages have ended up in divorce???If you see most of the love marriages end up in divorce. Arranged marriages are not just compromise and i strongly disagree this
